Transportation Supervisor
(Hamilton, ON - January 1, 2010)

Our client, a well known food services company located near Hamilton, is seeking a Transportation Supervisor reporting to the Logistics Manager. The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for managing drivers as well as activities associated with the supply chain logistics department, and delivering performance targets in the areas of safety, quality, customer service, cost control, and people. Compensation will commensurate with experience and includes company benefits and profit sharing.
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Review daily performance (e.g. labour efficiency) measures with team members and other departments to ensure issues are identified, corrective actions are in place and executed.
  • Ensure trucks and drivers are scheduled according to business requirements.
  • Maintain fleet of equipment to legislated standards.
  • Monitor driver performance, and provide required feedback.
  • Ensure all employees are in compliance with safety legislation and company policies.
  • Ensure a positive and constructive work environment through effective communication.
  • Work with the Logistics Analyst to ensure common carrier service levels are maintained.
  • Continuously suggest and implement process improvements with the operations group.
  • Prepare monthly action plans to address performance gaps.
  • Ensure all Food Safety programs are strictly adhered to.
  • Take an active role in the improvement of the company’s safety programs.
  • Effectively manage resources required by the Transportation Supervisor’s department - material handling equipment, trailers, trucks, etc.
  • Cross-functional coordination to ensure successful execution.
  • Ability to managing the resource constraints of time, people and money.
  • Accountable for a 24 hour operation with the ability to motivate a diverse workforce.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Community college education preferred and/or relevant supply chain designation (i.e. P.Log, CITT, etc)
  • Service Oriented - High need to please.
  • Effective Communicator - Communicate expectations and engage people to meet goals.
  • Performance Oriented - A commitment to excellence.
  • Organizing and planning skills- Able to develop action plans and follow through.
  • Influencing skills - Able to display various influencing techniques.
  • Strong personal integrity and ability to demonstrate a strong bias for action.
  • Ability to embrace change as the only path to future opportunity.
  • Ability to act and communicate based on facts, rather than hypothesis.
  • Strong personal leadership skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of cross border transactions.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills for WMS, Web applications, spreadsheets, etc.
