Strategic Sourcing Project Manager (Toronto - Downtown - January 6, 2010)
Our client, a leading high technology organization in Downtown Toronto is seeking the services of Sourcing Project Manager. The individual will be accountable for the development and implementation of strategies that result in the achievement of yearly cost reductions. The priorities will be focusing on managing strategic sourcing projects, on negotiating and implementing supplier agreements and on working with a group of Senior Buyers and/or Contract Specialists to ensure the most effective procurement practices are in place and utilized. This is a Three month contract to start that may be extended or lead to a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Applying strategic sourcing practices to develop improved commercial terms with suppliers.
- Managing supplier bid/negotiations to ensure that full benefits are realized and sustained.
- Leading activities related to sourcing new suppliers.
- Maintaining intelligence and market analysis regarding product and service development opportunities.
- Developing, managing and measuring key supplier relationships.
- Resolving project level issues and escalating as appropriate. Key Competencies & Skills
Qualifications
- Fully conversant with the theory and application of modern procurement techniques and tools.
- In-depth understanding of the supply marketplace and its dynamics.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more specialized areas of Procurement (e.g. IT, Advertising, Capital Contracts, Outsourcing, Partnerships).
- Must possess good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and confidently interact with senior levels internally and with suppliers.
- Proven leadership skills and experience.
- University degree in a business field.
- CPP designation or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum five years of strategic sourcing, procurement and operational experience across a wide range of purchasing activities (e.g. commodity purchasing, services, contracting, capital projects, etc).
- Experience in high technology sector is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Project management experience is an asset.
- Superior interpersonal and facilitation skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of SAP or another ERP is preferred.
- Highly motivated individual with excellent problem solving skills.
- Proven ability to meet critical deadlines and remain on budget.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
