Supply Chain Transportation Specialist - Contract
(Toronto - North - March 15, 2010)

A high tech consumer products organization in north Toronto is seeking the services of a Supply Chain Transportation Specialist, reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain Management Programs. The project manager will be responsible for the several key projects and additional projects as required and is expected to have strong knowledge and experience in transportation related to consolidation, route optimization, cost reduction, efficiency, invoice auditing. They will be required to consistently demonstrate those skills with all projects assigned from initiation through to completion of the transportation program & projects.  This is a three month contract that may be renewable or lead to permanent employment.
Key Responsibilities:
There is an opportunity to reduce cost, complexity and consolidate carriers. Majority of the time will be spent implementing the solutions and delivering results.
Analysis
  • Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, manage costs, and resources to optimize cost effectiveness.
  • Perform analyses and quantitative modeling to support strategic, tactical, and operational decisions in the following areas:
     
    •  Network modeling:  including number, role, and size of facilities.
    •  Analysis of opportunities; price modeling; implementation and operational support; reporting and analysis related to existing 3PL as needed.
    •  Freight Pay and Audit: analytical and operational support for freight payment; analysis of freight payment data to support field and management decision making; identification of operational improvements.
    •  Contracts: support contract/pricing team during contract negotiations with transportation carriers.
    •  Provide data, analytical support, reporting, and advice as needed.
    • Leverage existing documentation of current processes and create new documentation to flesh out the sources of cost & delays in transportation
    • Meet with the business owners and conduct gap analysis of programs
Recommendations
  • Able to provide recommendations for plans/issues
  • Prioritize the issues based on impact on the business (reduce roadblocks, improve customer experience, reduce process time) and, as much as possible, ease to fix (cost, speed and complexity). 
  • Model and quantify the financial and operational impact of various alternatives on key solutions.  Use 3rd party optimization software.
  • Communicate complex analytical results to clients so they comprehend and accept findings and recommendations 
Implementation
  • Once potential solution areas are prioritized work with the other business departments owners to develop and implement a transportation program
  • Ability to drive measurable operational improvements through direct or indirect management costs & benefits tracking 
Standardization
  • Standardize process for business units and create an enterprise standard
  • Create training for business personnel to manage the program.
  • Determine the current business process in use for transportation and all related dependencies and provide user centric documentation
 
Project Management
  • Lead weekly working level meetings
  • Manage the deliverables and schedules for the project
  • Measures and evaluates the effectiveness of protocols, programs or deliverables; compares measurement results to standards and takes immediate action to close gaps identified.
  • Be able to manage intensive implementation roll-out
  • Act as internal consultant for transportation strategy, serving the supply chain dept.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 10+ years experience applying Operations Research or other analytical techniques in the areas of logistics and supply chain management.

  • 10+ years of relevant Transportation or Operations experience.  3PL experience is a plus.
  •  Experience with Strategic Network Design, Transportation Optimization, or Simulation software preferred
  •  Demonstrated previous experience implementing transportation strategies, consolidation, cost reduction.
  •  Proficient in Microsoft office and data analysis tools such as MS Excel and MS Access, ERP solutions.
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
