Logistics Engineer
(North Toronto - January 20th, 2012 - Open)

Our client, a high tech organization in North Toronto, is seeking a Logistics Engineer responsible for logistics engineering and process improvement in warehousing operations and distribution across Canada.  The Logistics Engineer will report to Manager, Logistics Engineering, and assist in logistics engineering, process improvement and capital projects.  This is a three to six month month contract available immediately, that could be extended or lead to full time employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement Logistics engineering for warehouse storage media, warehouse layout, WMS (warehouse management system), MHE (material handling equipment), warehouse equipment including RF infrastructure and automated conveyance and packaging equipment, production and packaging work cells, fulfillment, maintenance and operation support, safety equipment as well as key sustainability initiatives.
  • Maintain Six Sigma and LEAN process improvement to improve quality and to reduce cost to create the best value for our customers.
  • Assist in Capital projects for process capability and efficiency.
  • Logistics engineering (time studies, warehouse and workflow layout, WMS, and other logistics engineering design and implementation, documentation and drawings).
  • Process improvement (work cell design, 5s, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and other work leading to quality improvement and cost saving).
  • Project work and coordination including conducting feasibility studies, providing project justifications, preparing tender packages/specifications, obtaining quotes, procurement and field coordination's for installation and commissioning of process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Engineering degree, preferably in Industry Engineering.
  • Minimum three to five years Engineering experience and skills (time studies, financial/project justifications, work flow design, CAD drawings).
  • Supply Chain and Logistics experience including WMS.
  • Project management skills with proven track records in project work.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with internal cross functional teams and vendors to deliver results.
  • Six Sigma and Lean would be an asset, with experience in cost saving initiatives and projects.
  • Result driven, self starter, ability to work well independently as well as in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines of multiple milestones/projects in a high volume, fast paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Project, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; AutoCAD.
  • Familiar with ERP/MRP system.
